President's Message

Heather Stern
WLALA President 2018-2019

January 2019

Happy New Year!  As the sun sets on 2018 and rises on 2019, I can’t help but be really excited.

No, it’s not the return of the WLALA Golf League at the Lakes after a brief hiatus, or the launch of a new format for our newsletter and weekly updates – although all of that is definitely worth celebrating.  And no, it’s not the prospect of another female Presidential candidate, or that 2019 will be the first year public companies based in California are required to have at least one female director on their board – although all of that is definitely worth celebrating too.

Instead it is something that is both specific to our bar and grand scale and momentous – WLALA, yes our WLALA, is going to be celebrating its 100 year anniversary.  And we are going to have a big party.  And you are invited.

Specifically, on the evening of Saturday, September 21, 2019, we will be celebrating our Centennial with a gala at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Los Angeles with the theme, “Celebrating Our Past and Committing to the Future.”  Save the Date now, because you are going to want to attend this.  You will want to hear our speakers, you will want to demonstrate your support, you will want to get the swag, and you will want to see and be seen as we mark this significant milestone.

In the meantime, we are hard at work with all of the excellent programming WLALA always has to offer.  On January 8, 2019, our Westside Mentoring Circle will feature a presentation on how to strengthen your mental attitude, prevent burn-out, and cultivate a more successful and sustainable practice.  On January 23, 2019, our Young Lawyers Section will be hosting a New Year Kickoff Mixer at The Wellesbourne for both WLALA and non-WLALA members (bring a friend!).  On January 31, 2019, we will be offering an MCLE on special education law, featuring a stellar lineup of panelists exploring this topic together.  And that’s just a part of what WLALA has to offer in the month of January alone!

The holidays may be behind us, friends, but the future holds the promise of more good times to come.  We look forward to seeing you!
