President's Message
Jennifer Leland
WLALA President 2019-2020
March 2020
Hello Members! In honor of Women’s History Month, I would like to recognize all of the amazing women who have contributed to the history of our country and are currently making history, including the women who entered the 2020 presidential race, the thousands of women who marched for women’s rights and the women who bravely shared their #MeToo stories. If you have some extra time, I urge you to check out the website of the National Women’s History Museum where you can spend hours reading about the histories and accomplishments of history-making women.
The National Women’s History Alliance selects and publishes a yearly theme for Women’s History Month. This year, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment and the women who fought to win voting rights for women, the theme is “Valiant Women of the Vote.” Today also happens to be Super Tuesday so if you have not already done so, take the time to celebrate 100 years of women’s empowerment and exercise your right to vote by going to the polls. It is sure to be an interesting election year and participation by women is crucial if we want to shape laws and policies, have our voices heard and our interests considered.
This month, WLALA is also holding its 25th Annual Litigators Forum. The topic this year is the Characteristics of Power Litigators of the New Decade. A distinguished panel of judges will discuss topics ranging from emerging technology to the impact of the #MeToo movement. If you haven’t yet purchased a ticket, there is still time. In addition, we have several other events and programs happening this month – on March 10, come mix and mingle at an International Women’s Day Mixer on the Westside; on March 11, join the Career Mentoring Committee for dinner; and on March 25, attend our Labor & Employment Committee program.
This month also marks the middle of our 2019-2020 year and as we head in the second half, we want your input. Please take a few minutes to complete a survey that we have included in this month’s newsletter. Thank you and have a wonderful month.
