Rachel C. Monas

2018 RBG Scholarship Recipient

Ms. Monas is entering her second year at Loyola Law School this fall.  Ms. Monas’ interest in issues affecting women and children came by way of her successful solo practice as a doula prior to attending law school.  During her years in such profession, Ms. Monas was exposed to many issues faced by a diverse cross-section of women.  This encouraged Ms. Monas to assume a leadership position at Birthways, a nonprofit parenting education center in Berkeley, California.  She also became a volunteer at the San Francisco Homeless Prenatal Program, local hospitals, and local women’s health clinics.

Her volunteer and nonprofit work over the years (including work to combat human trafficking at Made in a Free World) has led her to focus on a public interest emphasis in law school.  Ms. Monas was accepted at Loyola Law School as a Public Interest Scholar, and recently was elected to the board of the Loyola Public Interest Law Foundation.

Ms. Monas plans to pursue to career in public interest family law after law school.  This summer, she will be working as a law clerk at the Levitt & Quinn Nonprofit Family Law Center.  She also intends to apply for an internship at the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law in the upcoming school year.
