President's Message - March 2026

Farah Tabibkhoei

WLALA President 2025-2026

As I touched down in the Azores Islands on March 8, 2026, after a long day of travel, I was greeted by the hotel concierge with a long-stemmed mum flower in honor of International Women’s Day, reminding me of the global reach of this important day. We continue to celebrate Women’s History Month all month long honoring women’s contributions to history, the arts, music, sports, and more.

This past month, members and friends of WLALA enjoyed Six: The Musical, which tells the story of the six wives of Henry VIII as they rewrite historical tales about their lives and reclaim their power. Additionally, WLALA proudly sponsored Harmony for Hope, a benefit concert for the Refugee & Immigrant Emergency Fund of International Institute of Los Angeles (IILA) featuring country and Black Opry artist, Julie Williams. On behalf of WLALA, I want to thank WLALA Past President Mary McKelvey for her donation to IILA in WLALA’s name, benefiting this worthy cause.

The Winter Olympics may be over but we continue to celebrate women’s sports locally. We hope you’ll join us on March 14, 2026 as we cheer on UCLA’s women’s gymnastics team, which includes two-time Olympic Medalist, Jordan Chiles.

Finally, we reflect on the bravery and strength of women including those who have been affected by domestic violence and show our gratitude for those who advocate, protect, and fight for justice for victims of domestic violence. We invite you to join us on March 19, 2026, for a powerful conversation, Surviving & Seeking Justice: Addressing Intimate Partner Violence in Los Angeles. All proceeds will benefit Survivor Justice Center, Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law, and Levitt Quinn Family Law Center. We want to thank our Sister Bar organizations including Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles (BWL), Asian Pacific American Women Lawyers Alliance (APAWLA), and Latina Lawyers Bar Association (LLBA) for co-sponsoring this event, as well as each of our event sponsors for their generosity and a special thanks to Nixon Peabody for sponsoring and providing the venue for this important event.

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” — Helen Keller
