Alexandra M. Fuxa Ramirez

Alexandra M. Fuxa Ramirez is a rising 3L at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. She graduated cum laude from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and Mandarin Chinese.  As an aspiring future immigration lawyer, for Alexandra’s Fran Kandel Fellowship project, she worked together with the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (LACLJ) to create a brochure informing immigrants about public benefits they are eligible for depending on their immigration status. Specifically, Alexandra focused her fellowship project on public benefits available to immigrant survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking. The brochure includes a list of visas for which these survivors are possibly eligible for, as well as a “know your rights and responsibilities” sections advising immigrants on how to deal with certain situations when applying to public benefits at the DPSS Office. The brochure is available in both English and Spanish, and will be distributed at shelters and public schools around Los Angeles that have a high immigrant population. Additionally, LACLJ will distribute the brochure to clients who are applying or thinking about applying for U Visas, T Visas, and VAWA self-petitions.
