Athena Kieu

2025 Public Interest Grant Recipient

Athena Kieu (she/her) is a rising 3L at LMU Loyola Law School, with a strong interest in trial advocacy and public interest. While she did not know she wanted to attend law school until later in her undergraduate degree, her law school experience helped her to discover a passion for litigation, and especially advocating for vulnerable individuals, including women of color, LGBTQIA+ members, and children and young adults. During law school, Athena has sought to participate in law student associations, as well as local bar associations. Not only will she serve as the incoming Vice President of Administration for Loyola’s Asian Pacific American Law Student Association, but she has also served as past executive board member of various student associations, including OUTLaw.

Athena spent her 1L summer in family law, working at the Domestic Violence Clinic at Whittier Courthouse and under the supervision of an attorney at Community Legal Aid SoCal. It was here that she gained a passion for protecting the more vulnerable members of the community. She is currently a certified summer law clerk at the Office of County Counsel in Los Angeles, under the dependency division. With the help of the attorneys at County Counsel, she aims to create a guidebook for professionals who work with youth and young adults to most effectively prevent Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and Youth (CSECY).
