Hon. Cathy Ostiller

Law Student Mentoring

Cathy Ostiller is a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge. She was appointed to the bench in October 2022 and is assigned to Juvenile Dependency at the Edelman Children’s Court in Monterey Park. Prior to joining the bench, she served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California in Los Angeles for over 20 years. Judge Ostiller served in both the Criminal Division and the Civil Fraud Section and specialized in the prosecution of health care fraud. Judge Ostiller also worked in the Civil Fraud Section of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. Before joining the government, Judge Ostiller was an associate at the law firm then known as Sidley & Austin and served as a law clerk to the Honorable James M. Ideman, former U.S. District Judge, in Los Angeles.

Judge Ostiller has been a member of the Board of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles since 2009 and currently serves as the co-chair of the Law Student Mentoring Committee. She also is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Criminal Justice Section Executive Committee and the Los Angeles Criminal Justice Inn of Court.

Judge Ostiller earned her J.D. from U.C. Berkeley School of Law and her B.A. in Political Science from U.C. Berkeley.
