Nicole Fleming
2024 BRO Scholarship Recipient
My name is Micah Nicole Fleming, I am a senior at Vistamar School where I am an active student leader and have a 4.03 GPA. I serve my school community as an influential leader. For four years, I have been a member of the Student Hiring Committee, a cohort of select students that support the school’s hiring process by interviewing teaching and administrative candidates. I lead two other on-campus clubs, and through my leadership, I have represented my school in national student conferences where we focused on effective practices to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion work in our schools.
Outside of school, I dedicate myself to leadership, community action, and charitable work. I currently devote my time serving as the Vice President of Volunteerism to over 200 students in an organization called “Zero Debt College Project” where K-12 students are encouraged to serve in their communities.
I am passionate about addressing Period Poverty and recently facilitated a feminine hygiene kit drive where 150 kits were donated to homeless teens. Not to mention, I recently received the White House Presidential Service Award for two consecutive years which is an award that honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities and inspires those around them to take action. In addition, I serve as the Teen Legislative Chair in the Inglewood Chapter of Jack and Jill of American Inc. where I coordinate legislative activities for the teens.
I desire to be a human rights attorney and use my voice to champion the rights of those who lack the ability to do so. I plan to attend Spelman College to obtain my bachelor’s degree in Political Science on a pre law track. Most recently I was selected to participate in Spelman College’s Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program as I was recognized for my academic excellence and dedication to my community.
