RECORDING The State of Housing in LA County and the Role of Pro Bono Attorneys in Keeping Angelenos Housed

$5.00

WLALA Foundation invites WLALA members to join our new pro bono initiative to make a difference in eviction defense with just a few hours. Learn more at this CLE and then volunteer at an ICLC clinic to be staffed by WLALA members. WLALA Foundation and ICLC are partnering with Mayor Karen Bass’ “We Are LA” Pro Bono initiative, which is a new model for homeless prevention designed to tackle our city’s homelessness crisis through the power of pro bono partnerships.

At the CLE you will learn that as pandemic-era eviction protections end across California and the Los Angeles area, an increasing number of tenants are being served with eviction notices at record rates. While the right-to-counsel efforts in LA County are in progress, most tenants facing eviction still have only minimal avenues for defending against eviction notices and avoiding homelessness. This virtual training will provide an overview of 1) the status of housing rights in LA County, 2) the law and procedure surrounding eviction defense work, and 3) how to work effectively with low-income clients.
