The Foundation’s annual giving campaign – the WLALA Foundation Charitable Fund – runs every year from the fall to the end of January. 100% of donations supports WLALA’s philanthropic activities: scholarships, fellowships, mentoring through Power Lunch, and community organizations.

Since its inception, the WLALA Foundation has awarded over half a million dollars to law students with a demonstrated commitment to advancing WLALA’s mission of advocating for principles of fairness and equality and improving the status of women by supporting their exercise of equal rights, equal representation, and reproductive choice.

In just the past 23 years, the Foundation has:

• awarded tuition scholarships to 91 law students committed to fighting for social justice, equality and inclusion and to issues affecting women, children, minorities, or other historically marginalized groups,
• awarded a bar examination scholarship to 1 law student,
• funded 43 Fran Kandel Public Interest Fellowships, enabling law students to work with an organization, or individually, to develop and implement a project in public interest law,
• funded 15 Inner City Law Center Fellowships (established 2017) to work with the Inner City Law Center’s with the Homeless Veterans Project and Preventing and Ending Homelessness Project,
• funded 1 Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law Fellowship (established 2024) to provide free domestic violence and family law assistance to the poor,
• recorded oral histories of women lawyers in Los Angeles, and
• supported the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law, the Downtown Women’s Center and the Power Lunch Program.
